Overview
Anini is the headquarters of the Dibang Valley district. Placed atop a plateau between two tributaries of the Brahmaputra, it is surrounded by clouds, alpine forests, and snow-capped peaks.
Why it is offbeat
Getting to Anini is an adventure in itself. Because of its extreme remoteness and the treacherous road conditions from Roing, it sees only a handful of tourists every year. It is raw, rugged frontier territory.
Best time to visit
October to April. Monsoons (May to September) trigger massive landslides that can cut the town off from the rest of India for days.
How to reach
Reach Dibrugarh (Assam) by flight or train. Cross the Bogibeel bridge to reach Roing. From Roing, it is a bone-rattling 8-10 hour drive via Mayudia Pass to reach Anini.
Permit/visa notes
ILP required for Indians. Foreigners need a PAP. Because of its proximity to the border, permits are strictly checked at multiple army and police checkpoints.

- Trek to Seven Lakes (requires a local guide and multiple days).
