Hampi 2-Day Itinerary: Best Ruins, Sunrise Points and Where to Stay

Hampi rewards a slow pace, but two days is enough for a first visit if you group the ruins logically instead of zig-zagging across the boulder landscape. Think of the site in two halves: the sacred riverside and bazaar area around Virupaksha, then the royal and Vittala-side monuments that show the scale of the Vijayanagara capital.

Begin with the royal enclosure before the sun gets strong, then move toward Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stables and the Vittala Temple complex.

1. Morning: Mahanavami Dibba, stepped tank, underground Shiva temple and the royal enclosure.
2. Midday: Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stables and the Zenana enclosure.
3. Afternoon: Vijaya Vittala Temple, stone chariot, musical-pillared mandapas and the market street.
4. Sunset: Sanapur Lake, Anjanadri Hill on the Anegundi side, or a quiet boulder viewpoint recommended by your stay.

Where to Stay

Choose your stay area by the trip you actually want. Hampi village is atmospheric and walkable but limited. Kamalapura works well for families and people who want quick access to the royal centre. Hosapete has the best transport links, ATMs and broader hotel range. Anegundi and Sanapur are slower, better for cafes, boulder views and longer stays, but they add crossing/road time.

For a practical two-day trip, budget separately for accommodation, local transport and monument entry. Backpacker trips can stay lean by using buses/shared autos and simple guesthouses. Comfort trips usually spend more on a car/auto for the royal-centre day.
