NatureAdventureWildlife

Khao Sok is a rainforest and limestone-karst trip, not a beach add-on. Most travelers choose between a village jungle stay, a Cheow Lan Lake floating bungalow, or both. The strongest plan includes at least one night near the park and one night on the lake if budget allows.

Quick Plan

  • Stay 2 nights minimum: one near Khao Sok village and one on Cheow Lan Lake.
  • Stay 3 to 4 nights if you want slower jungle walks, canoeing and recovery time after transfers.
  • Book floating bungalows early in peak season because lake rooms are limited.
  • Expect wildlife sounds and forest scenery, but do not expect guaranteed large-animal sightings.
  • Use a licensed guide for jungle trails that require one and for night walks.

Best Time and Weather

The drier months from roughly December to April are easier for lake views and transfers. Rain is possible year-round because this is rainforest. May to November can be dramatic and green, but heavy rain can affect caves, trails and boat comfort.

How to Reach and Move Around

Khao Sok is commonly reached from Surat Thani, Krabi, Phuket or Khao Lak by van, car or transfer service. Cheow Lan Lake trips usually start from Ratchaprapha Pier, which is separate from Khao Sok village, so check exactly where your tour includes pickup.

What to See and Do

  • Cheow Lan Lake for karst cliffs, longtail boats and floating raft houses.
  • Guided jungle walks for plants, insects, gibbons calls and rainforest context.
  • Canoeing or tubing near Khao Sok village when water levels are suitable.
  • Morning mist on the lake if you sleep in a floating bungalow.
  • Night walks with a guide for reptiles, insects and nocturnal forest life.

Where to Stay

Choose Khao Sok village for budget rooms, simple restaurants and trail access. Choose floating bungalows for atmosphere and lake scenery. Comfort levels vary widely, from basic raft rooms to higher-end lake stays, so read what is included before paying.

Suggested Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrive in Khao Sok village, short nature walk or river activity.
  • Day 2: Transfer to Ratchaprapha Pier, boat to Cheow Lan Lake, afternoon lake activity.
  • Day 3: Morning lake safari or viewpoint, return to pier, continue to Surat Thani, Krabi, Phuket or Khao Lak.

Safety and Responsible Travel

  • Follow guide instructions around caves, rain-swollen streams and boat boarding.
  • Use reef-safe sunscreen only where appropriate, and avoid leaving soap or waste in waterways.
  • Pack dry bags for electronics; lake transfers can be wet.
  • Do not feed wildlife or pressure guides for close animal encounters.

Before You Book

Park fees, lake bungalow inclusions, cave access and weather-dependent activities can change. Confirm pickup point, meals, room type, guide status and cancellation terms before booking.
