Mui Ne: Where Desert Meets Ocean

Mui Ne is a coastal resort town famous for its massive sand dunes, strong winds ideal for kitesurfing, and a unique geological canyon known as the Fairy Stream.

The White and Red Sand Dunes

Mui Ne features two distinct sand dune fields:

  • White Sand Dunes (Bau Trang): Located 25km outside town, these are massive desert-like dunes next to a freshwater lake filled with lotuses. The most popular activity here is hiring an ATV with a driver to race up and down the dunes at sunrise.
  • Red Sand Dunes: Closer to town, these smaller orange-red dunes are perfect for catching the sunset and sliding down on plastic sleds rented from local kids.

The Fairy Stream (Suoi Tien)

The Fairy Stream is a shallow, ankle-deep creek that winds between dramatic red and white clay walls and bizarre rock pillars. Visitors walk barefoot through the soft, sandy stream bed for about 1km to reach a small waterfall. Entrance is 15,000 VND.

World-Class Kitesurfing

Thanks to consistent onshore winds, Mui Ne is the kitesurfing capital of Southeast Asia. The best season is from **November to March**. The main beach strip along Nguyen Dinh Chieu street is lined with kitesurfing schools and gear rental shops.
