1. Tawang Monastery (Galden Namgey Lhatse)

It houses over 300 Buddhist monks, a valuable library of ancient scriptures, and a majestic 18-foot gilded statue of Lord Buddha.
2. Sela Pass and Sela Lake
Sela Pass, situated at a height of 13,700 feet (4,170 meters), is the gateway to Tawang. The pass is covered in snow for most of the year. Right next to the pass lies the beautiful Sela Lake, which remains frozen during the peak winter months.
3. Bumla Pass and Madhuri Lake
Bumla Pass is located 37 km from Tawang at the Indo-China border (15,200 feet). Visitors can interact with Indian Army personnel and view the border checkpost. On the way lies **Sangetsar Lake**, commonly known as Madhuri Lake (after actress Madhuri Dixit shot a film here), featuring dead tree trunks standing in the middle of clear waters.
Arunachal Pradesh Permits
Arunachal Pradesh is a protected border state, requiring special entry permits:

How to Reach Tawang
The journey to Tawang is an adventurous road trip. There are no active commercial airports in Tawang. The route starts from **Guwahati** or **Tezpur** in Assam:
Guwahati to Tawang Road Route: Guwahati -> Tezpur -> Bhalukpong -> Bomdila -> Dirang -> Sela Pass -> Tawang. The total distance is about 450 km. Because of steep mountain terrain, foggy conditions, and road conditions, travelers usually break the journey by halting overnight at Dirang or Bomdila before crossing Sela Pass the next day.
