About Banavasi

Banavasi is an ancient temple town located in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, on the banks of the Varada River. Dating back to 4000 BCE, it is Karnataka's oldest town and served as the ancient capital of the Kadamba Dynasty, the first native rulers of Karnataka. The town is famous for the 9th-century Madhukeshwara Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva.
