About Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is a high-altitude dry deciduous forest reserve in the Western Ghats, spread across 9,168 hectares at elevations between 1,000 and 2,000 meters. It is home to endangered species such as the Nilgiri tahr, grizzled giant squirrel, and Indian giant squirrel, making it a crucial conservation area. The sanctuary offers visitors a chance to experience pristine wilderness with dramatic landscape variations and rich biodiversity.

💡Why Visit?

This is Kerala's only high-altitude sanctuary and one of the most pristine trekking destinations in the Western Ghats, offering unparalleled opportunities to spot endangered wildlife and experience untouched natural beauty. The sanctuary remains relatively less crowded compared to other Kerala wildlife reserves, making it ideal for nature lovers seeking authentic wilderness experiences.
