Lachen is a remote, high-altitude mountain village situated in the North Sikkim district, perched at an altitude of 2,750 meters. Flanked by snow-capped peaks, pine forests, and glacial streams, it is the home of the Lachenpa community, who maintain a unique self-governing local administrative system (Dzumsa), and serves as the base for journeys to the sacred Gurudongmar Lake.
It is the gateway to the spectacular, high-altitude Gurudongmar Lake (5,430 meters) and offers raw Himalayan village culture and dramatic snow mountain landscapes.
