About Nerak

Nerak is a tiny hamlet above the Zanskar River gorge in Ladakh, at roughly 3,680 m. It is best known as the turning point of the Chadar trek: the frozen waterfall at Nerak marks the end of the standard winter route along the ice, with longer versions of the walk continuing on towards Lingshed or Padum.

The frozen waterfall at Nerak is the classic turnaround of the Chadar trek, reachable only in deep winter when the Zanskar River freezes hard enough to walk on.
